Hong Kong and Macau to ban import of Japanese aquatic products from Aug. 24

In response to Japan’s Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge plan, Hong Kong will ban the import of aquatic products, including all live, frozen, chilled, dried or otherwise preserved aquatic products, sea salt, and unprocessed or processed seaweeds originating from the 10 prefectures in Japan, namely Tokyo, Fukushima, Chiba, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, Miyagi, Niigata, Nagano and Saitama from August 24th, and the relevant ban will be published in the Gazette on August 23rd.

The Macao SAR Government also announced that from August 24th, the import of fresh food, food of animal origin, sea salt and seaweeds originating from the above 10 prefectures of Japan, including vegetables, fruits, milk and milk products, aquatic products and aquatic products, meat and its products, eggs, etc., would be prohibited.
